Balans Soho Society- Run, Don’t Walk.

Whilst we were away we needed somewhere to eat and boy, did we eat! I had done some research beforehand and booked a table at Balans Soho Society . I was drawn in by their food, absinthe cocktails and décor. It didn’t disappoint.

We hopped off the Underground on High Street Kensington and walked the 500 yards to the restaurant. Greeted by a team of genuinely nice staff members and seated at our table. Menus swiftly opened- we kind of knew what we wanted already but when we heard the specials we instantly changed our minds. Starters consisted of baba ganoush, seared tuna and quesadilla.

Mains of steak sandwiches and red curry were ordered with a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The music was great and we chatted and ate our way through our dishes- eagerly awaiting our main courses. I very rarely cook red meat at home so this was such a treat, although after our first bite we instantly went sour. Our lovely waiter had forgoten to mention our sandwiches would be smothered in HORSE RADISH. Yuck. Feeling like utter fools we had to send them back but we were assured it wasn’t an issue. This is service you just don’t get in Ireland. They were changed within minutes while we munched our double-dip chunky chips. (I would recommed these to everyone and would order them as my last meal on earth BTW). The red curry was also unbelievably good and devoured. We nearly considered not having dessert until we saw the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel ice-cream. Just delicious!

I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed going for a meal like this. 5 stars! Contact these lovely people on Twitter- @BalansLondon and Instagram- @balanssohosociety. Check them out the next time you visit London, found in Kensington, Soho, Stratford and Shepard’s Bush.
