Saturdays and Swatches.

Happy Saturday everyone! Before I went away I visited the lovely ladies on Oliver Plunkett street and used up some Christmas vouchers. Inglot has some of the best collections, so I’m definitely going to need bigger palettes soon. My sister introduced me to Inglot a few months ago and I am quickly becoming obsessed. The girls who work there are really helpful and are willing to answer any questions and give loads of advice.

I was looking for a highlighter and fell for the Sparkling Dust in 02, it is the most beautiful colour and is perfect for everyday! I picked up the sculpting powder in 507 but did some damage taking it out of the package, always too impatient 😦
My favourite blush to date is the number 28, both powders are so pigmented so a little goes a very long way. Two gorgeous natural colours that you can build for a heavier look.

A quick OOTD – Ripped jeans and navy shirt both Penneys, Converse and ONLY scarf. Is it just me or have Penneys upped their jeans game recently?! So comfy and fit really well! Our Saturday is being spent editing and watching Modern Family reruns. Being as lazy as possible 🙂

My new favourite product!

For years I have experimented with my hair and the results have been good but mostly bad. I’ve been every colour in the rainbow and more. I have always loved being a blonde but last year I decided to give my hair a break from the constant colouring and styling! Although I couldn’t face life without being a little blonde…

image

image

image

My hair is naturally curly and this is something I should appreciate more. So as of February I am going to try to let it get back to its natural state as much as possible. I use styling products and tools that I know help my poor mane but heat still causes damage..I love to use my Toni and Guy hair straightener and Nicky Clarke curling wand as they both have adjustable heat settings. Although I only use the lowest temperature as my hair doesn’t need much heat.

image

For protection I use a Toni and Guy Nourish Reconstruction mask or Milkshake Active milk mask once a week and I will change my weekly routine between Mane ‘n’ Tail and TRESemmé. I love these products and I will continue to use them!
I have loved using the Mane ‘n’ Tail, it has made my hair so thick and shiny and it has lasted month. Although I’m not a fan of the smell but I know it’s reversing years of abuse so I don’t mind!
TRESemmé never suited my blonde hair I found the shampoo would sit in it and it wouldn’t feel clean but they do wonders for it now. It leaves my hair with beautiful bounce and texture and I find I don’t need to wash and style it as much and it grows so quickly now.

image

Now onto my favourite product ever.  Bleach London “Violet Skies” is a non permanent colour that will pretty much just stain your blonde hair. I longed for the gorgeous pastel My Little Pony hair trends for years now but never had the balls to try it..until Friday. We were in Boots and I saw them, a nicely stocked section of mermaid shades.. it just spoke to me! I went home did a strand test and waited and voilà!
It was so easy to use- no prepping of the product, no mess, no fuss. Simply wash your hair and towel dry and your ready to go.

image

Now I knew I wouldn’t go very purple as my hair was still quite dark but I have a purple hue that makes my heart sing! I’m so happy with the results and will definitely purchase it again. Maybe even in a different colour… no stopping me now!

Packing Light

I have spent the morning doing laundry, trying to pack and keep it under 10kg. Flying with Ryanair has pro’s and con’s- cheap flights, cheap rules. Still I would rather have my luggage within eyesight instead of left on the tarmac. Therefore packing 5 days into a suitcase the size of a loaf of bread can be difficult enough. The capsule wardrobe becomes your friend! I’m probably stating the obvious here…

  • Pick shoes you know you will wear

This is easy, you know your going to be doing a lot of walking. Pack comfy shoes, we are lucky that trainers are stylish right now and can be worn with practically any outfit. I’ll pack my trusty flats and weather depending wear my Dr. Martens going. I’ll throw some heels in too as this can change a day outfit to dinner outfit in seconds.

  • Outfits that will work for you

Lots of walking, lovely dinner dates and maybe a night or two out on the tiles requires many options but with a few statement pieces and some great accessories you’ll be gorgeous! Jeans, tees, lightweight knits, a silky shirt and an LBD! Mix, match and layer. I know these outfits are going to work. Just like I know that the stilettos and wedges I’d love to bring would cripple me. Nothing says Chic like looking like you need a wee as you amble down the street.

  • Accessories

Your carry on handbag should be big enough that you can sneak those few extra items through and double up as your everyday bag. I like to use my green Indigo bag- it has an inside pocket for important items and is easy to carry! I used it last time we travelled and it was perfect. A small dinner/going out bag or clutch. This will jazz up your outfit and doesn’t take up too much room. Scarves, jewellery and hats can also take up a lot of room- wear the biggest, heaviest items going through check-in. Take them off as soon as you get through! I’m bringing my new hat from H&M, this will hide a multitude of hair issues!

So that’s what I’m trying to stick too! I hope it stays dry, I will deal with the cold. I am also trying to save the kg’s for the way back… you never know what I’ll pick up while I’m there.

Dieters, look away now!

“Kill the headlights and put it in neutral” has been my mantra for a while now.
I have been laid up with this flu and on a go slow for a solid week now. Regretting all the times I took for granted having use of both nostrils and glands that weren’t the size of eggs.

Speaking of eggs or really Cadbury Caramel eggs, I have a cupcake recipe I wanted to share with you! This is an adapted recipe from a friend so can’t take all credit. Anyone who has taken up new years resolutions or who just values health should look away- it’s perfect now that the shops are fully stocked again!

image

The Cadbury Caramel Chocolate Cupcake.

40g Bournville Cocoa Powder
3 medium free range eggs
175g unsalted, softened butter
165g golden caster sugar
115g self raising flour
1tsp baking powder
3 tbsp hot water
6 Caramel Chocolate eggs (Creme Eggs work just as well but are VERY sweet!)
Mini eggs

Icing – 60g unsalted butter
30g cocoa
3 tbsp milk
250g golden caster sugar

image

Preheat oven to 200* degrees
Line tin with muffin cases
Sieve the cocoa into mixing bowl and mix in hot water to create a paste.
Add remaining cake ingredients starting with sugar and butter and mix.
Divide into cases – starting with one spoonful each
Add caramel eggs into 6 cases making sure they are fully submerged in the mix

image

Bake for 10-12 mins and cool on wire rack!

Icing- melt butter and sift in cocoa powder and icing sugar
If too thick add milk until consistency pleases you
Decorate cupcakes once cool.
Add mini eggs to cupcakes without a hidden surprise!
Heat up for a few seconds in the microwave for full effect before serving!

image

Planning our trip!

image

It will be our first trip away alone together ever!! It could spell disaster!

As a Christmas present to each other my brother, sister and I decided we would take a trip to Brighton and London. We have been before, with parents and separately but never just us three musketeers. This is very exciting!

image

Today we looked up things we would like to do that are off the beaten track. We’ve done all the tourist attractions, like the Eye, London Dungeons, Natural History Museum and Westminster before. I obviously want to visit Charlotte Tilbury, BOB by DOP (I need to see her beautiful designs! Hero!), Anthropologie, Selfridges and Camden Market. I might even get Paperchase in too..I’m sure there is more we will see but these are my definiates!

I think I will bring my siblings on the Ghost Walk in Brighton- it was the best £8 I ever spent! Highly entertaining tour of Brighton Lanes, history and even includes shots! We also have to visit the Pavillion and gardens and Choccywoccydoodah– for their beautiful creations.

image

It will be nice to getaway soon as January can be such a drag. I’m also looking forward to seeing how we will all get on in another country. I’m sure we will be fine once we don’t get hangry and the weather is ok!

If anyone has any suggestions I’d love to hear them!! 🙂

Bittersweet

So today Eoin had to leave for work again, I suppose I should get used to it as it is going to be a part of our lives. We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again. I know he is back every weekend but the first night and cooking for one is the hardest. He’ll be home for a bit in March. On the otherside I will have the house to myself and will definitely appreciate things like having less laundry! Ha!

What really made my day better was the fact my blog got some serious views!
I’m hoping this is not a mistake. To me this is such an achievement. As I write this it has grown even more, I feel as though I have already accomplished one of the goals I wrote for 2016. It happening on January 3rd makes mea tad suspicious though. I’m only going to work harder to see these kind of results on the regular.

On a whole, today was tough. I feel like I have so much love from my birthday wishes yesterday and today’s blog news. Although I am exhausted from the festive partying period and today’s upheaval. I’m glad Monday is coming, a little routine never hurt anyone!

I’m off to drink at least 4 litres of water! And maybe start Games of Thrones from the beginning now I have the tv to myself…

Happy birthday to me!

image

Another new year, another birthday. 25 feels quite nice! We had a nice dinner last night and I wore a dress I bought the other day..

image

I found it in TK Maxx and I instantly fell for it. Black, leather and so comfortable. Paired with my favourite heels and (shocker!) an oversized coat!

This was definitely the last party for a while. I have been ‘out’ for the last 3 weeks. I’m exhausted ha! I’m really looking forward to the next year and to see what life/blogging/work will bring!
